Barnboard Cross

For this challenge I actually got my husband involved. I spend a lot of time on Pinterest and I found these really awesome Barnboard crosses. My husband and his late father harvested some Barnboard from a barn right outside of our hometown. Weve had the Barnboard laying around for the last 5 years since my Father in law passed away, not really knowing what to do with it....so when I found these crosses, I knew exactly what we were to do.  We made this first one for ourselves as kind of a Proto type and since that time we have made six more one for each of my husband's brothers and one for my mother-in-law. I think they will be pleasantly surprised at Christmas time.
We cut the Barnboard into a 12 inch long piece and a 14 inch long piece, using just the width that the wood already was. I used the staple gun with smaller brads and stapled the two pieces together. I bought some wrapped wire that looks like old time barbed wire without the barbs and created a cross out of that to layer on top. Then I went to our local craft store and found The metal cross that has the rusted effect with the red gemstone one in the center. I used natural raffia to create The bow and left the streamers hanging down to balance out the cross. I just use some thinner wire and doubled it over a couple of times and hot glued it on the back for a hanger. It was a very fun project to do together with my husband, and we ended up with a very meaningful piece of art.
